Dragon Rider

Dear Cornelia, this is a picture of Shrii, my favourite character from 'A Griffin's Feather'. The book is really cool! Please write a sequel soon. Best, Ole (11 years old)

Hi Cornelia, I'm looking forward to the third book of the Dragon Rider series. I drew a picture of 'A Griffin's Feather', partly copied from the book, partly made up by myself: A griffin and a tarsier. Best, Benno Schulz

Dear Cornelia, I send you my drawing Sorrel's friend for your homepage. Looking forward to your new book!!! Sunny greetings, Jakob

This was my second try of drawing a phoenix. Best, Julius

Hi, Cornelia (or Insa, rather ;)! Here is a picture I drew of Sorrel. Or... sort of Sorrel? She doesn't look really like I pictured her, and I don't think she actually has a tail in the book. But kind of. Anyway, if you could add it to the album, that would be great! Thanks! ~Lydia~

A 'dragon family', drawn by Ella, a passionate 'Dragon Rider' fan from Germany.

Hello Ms. Funke, Lorenzo, my 3rd grader, is sending a dragon picture for your site. We are all huge fans and were disappointed when me missed you at the Temple City library a couple of years ago. We still have fond memories of meeting you at the UCLA book fair in 2006, and my boys have not stopped reading since! Please know that your books have brought our family such happiness and the fondest of memories as we have watched them grow into avid readers. All the best, Amber

I just finished reading Dragon Rider and found it the most enjoyable of all your works that I have come across so far! It even inspired me to create this little picture....... Thanks for the great story..... I hope there are more adventures in store for Ben and Firedrake! Sandra M. Vickoren

This is how six year old Ruben from Germany imagines the basilisk from Cornelia's book Dragon Rider

One of my most favourite characters of all of Cornelia's stories: Twigleg from 'Dragon Rider'. Thanks for all those fantastic books, Caboodle

Inkworld

Dear Ms. Funke, my son, Eddie, chose Inkheart for his Reading Fair Project. He is loving this book! We wanted to share a picture of the project board as well as thank you for writing such great book! With gratitude, Lynne Testa

Hello Mrs Funke! My daughters and I have been reading your books for years and we love them. Now my grandchildren have discovered your stories as well. Katharina (10 years old) is currently reading Inkheart, so I drew her a picture of Gwin. Warmest wishes from Germany, Bettina Gerstbauer (https://susawindkind.wordpress.com)

Gwin from 'Inkheart', drawn by German Inkworld fan Sabine

Hi Insa, hi Cornelia. I'm a big fan of the Inkworld. My Italian editions have been falling apart, so I rebound them. I'm bursting with pride. The Ink trilogy made me want to learn that. Thank you so much, Denja Mazzoni

Dear Cornelia, I thought that you might like to see the Inkheart cover that I entered in a Victorian statewide bookcover competition called Paper Cuts. (http://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/events/prc/Pages/covers2015.aspx ) The competition was sponsored by Penguin Random House Australia publishing and the Victorian Education Department. I won second prize! My rationale was: 'Inkheart is about storybook characters coming to life. To illustrate this, I decided to make a character literally out of the pages of the book. I chose to depict the fire-breather, Dustfinger, on my cover and make fire and heat a main theme. I darkened some of the papers in the oven, singed others with a candle and coloured the marten, Dustfinger's pet, with charcoal.' Regards, Katharine Parker (Australia)

I live with my two children (6 and 8 years old) in England. Currently I'm reading 'Inkheart' to them. My son James was so enthusiastic about Dustfinger, that he dressed up as him on World Book Day. He even handmade the torches!

An elf, drawn by Sabina Soto Pacheco

Streets of Capricorn's village, drawn by Sabina Soto Pacheco

Dear Insa, I remodeled this breyer horse to sort of look like the unicorn in the Inkheart movie (I know, there's not one in the book, because Capricorn wouldn't want a unicorn, but it was kinda cool), and was wondering if you'd add it in to website album? It doesn't look much like the one in the movie (I took.. uh.. creative liberties), but it does have a bunch of Inkheart quotes on it. Thanks! ~Lydia~

Greetings Cornelia, my name is Tyler and I met you at ECCC. I had just restarted the 'Inkheart' trilogy, when I ran into your table and had a bit of a freak out when you signed my book. Anyway! I decided to draw a couple of my favourite characters from the book. Here is my mental image of Dustfinger and Gwin. Sincerely, Tyler Brown

A beautiful portrait of Gwin, sent by Inkheart fan Hannah.

This is a drawing of Dustfinger performing with Gwin. Best, Lauren

The Wayless Wood, drawn by Violeta

Hi, my name is Willow Hardman. I never had much patience for reading until I read your book Inkheart when I was 10. I loved the book and the magical, wonderful world it provided, and have been an avid reader ever since. I'm 16 now and I still love your books, and I'm pretty sure I always will. Thank you so much for writing, especially Inkheart, because without your book I might never have found all the wonderful worlds and characters that have supported me.

Hello, Cornelia! I'm a frequent visitor of your site. Perhaps this whole thing is meant for slightly younger people than I, but I've just doodled this so I thought I might at least share it with you. The drawing is Dustfinger. I really like the fact that he is not always brave or courageous, though he can be when he has to. (Sorry, if my English doesn't make sense. It is difficult to explain!) I admire your life and your works. You are one of my role models. Also, lots of thanks for your site! It always gives me great pleasure to have a place where I can actually communicate with a writer and illustrator. Thank you for reading my mail and I will look forward to the finished site! J. A.

Mo and Dustfinger, drawn by Nora Reiter

For me, Paul Bettany is the best cast for the role of Dustfinger. The 'firehead' top left is meant to reflect his inner discrepancy, especially when it comes to moral decisions. Greetings to all of Cornelia's fans and to all film fans, AK Hevonen

Hi! This is how I imagine the White Women from your Inkheart Trilogy. Best, Katia

Dustfinger, drawn by Katia

Hi! This is how I imagined The Black Prince and his animal companion, Bear, from your Inkheart Triology. I drew them in my sketchbook. Best, Katia

My name is Dora, I'm 14 years old, and I adore the Inkworld trilogy. This is my drawing of Dustfinger, hope you like it! All the very best from Croatia.

Hi, I made a phone case a bit ago based off on Dustfinger's goodbye to Roxane at the end of 'Inkspell'. Best, Serena Graham

Dear Cornelia, here is a drawing I did today of Dustfinger, my favourite character from the Inkworld! I've been in love with him since I was 13, and I'm 22 now. He will forever be in my heart. With love from Canada, Shalene

Steven Bolt from Switzerland sent us his idea of an Ombra castle.

This is my favourite Inkworld character: Farid. Hope you like my drawing. Best, Milena

I loooooove the Inkworld trilogy, especially 'Inkdeath'. That's why I've drawn Bear, the loyal friend of the Black Prince. I hope you like it. Best, Annika (from Germany)

My name is Caroline Barthelmess and I guess you are in part responsible for those strange creatures that sometimes show up on my drawing papers. This on here could be a glassman 'in the wild', right? Though I'm almost 19 years old I mainly read your books - and particularly like the illustrations. That's why I want to say thank you! All the very best, Caroline.

Dear Cornelia and Insa, thank you for the passport! I got it at 21st of November. I love it! Now I'm going to read the mirror books again. I scribbled a Goyl-inspired drawing and got it printed and put it on my passport. Here's the picture. Have a wonderful year! Love from J

Hello, Cornelia Funke. I really like your MirrorWorld series, so I decided to make a drawing of somebody turning in to a blood stone goyl. Keep up the awesome work! Mayre

Hello, Ms. Funke! I absolutely love your Inkheart trilogy, and The Thief Lord--I own all four of those books. I like the Reckless books, too, so here is a drawing I did of Celeste/Fox, my favorite character from that series. It was inspired by the scene with Fox after the Larks' Water incident in Reckless. I'd be honored if you'd like to add it to the album on your site! Your writing is very inspiring; one day I hope to become a published author also! Vanessa Cooley (18 years old)

My favourite character Fox. She is such a great and brave character and I very much admire her. Best, Tatjana

Here are some Mirrorworld characters from my notebook. I hope you like them. Best, Amelie

Dear Cornelia, after many hours spent in the MirrorWorld, I had the wish to put my fantasy down on paper. And this is the result. I hope it lives up to your idea of Celeste/Fox. Best, Felicitas

I am a big fan of the Mirrorworld series. I'm sending my drawing of the Dark Fairy (please ignore the 'marginal drawings'). Best, Debbie

My picture shows Fox and Jacob together. It is based on chapters 9-11 of 'Reckless', which inspired me to do this collage. It expresses Fox' worries about Jacob, when she has found out what is the price for 'his brother's skin'. Best, Lea Kaib

Dear Cornelia Funke, my daughter, Zoey, loves your books! She plans to do her next book report on a Cornelia Funke book. She dressed up as Igraine the Brave for Halloween and we wanted to share a couple of photos. Notice in the second photo we made a shield with the family crest on it. She insisted on having a shield with the family crest on it and remembered exactly where the description of the family crest was in the book. Thanks for writing about strong female characters and sending positive messages to girls. Beth
