Nora Stampe Biologist from Northern Germany
Nora lives and works in Bremen with her husband Constantine and their dog Tommy.
After she finished high school, she took a detour starting a degree in economics, before she realized that she would much prefer to work outside as a field-, forest-, and meadow biologist.
She did her bachelor’s in biology in Osnabrück and her Master in ecology in Norway, because she thought that she would learn much more about how nature works and how we can protect it in such a wild country.
Nora's particular passion is birds, but she loves everything that lives and is outside.
What brought you to your work?
I decided to study biology because I did not want to end up in an office and I wanted to be outside as much as possible. Then I did my Master in ecology in Norway because I wanted to learn how nature works, the connections there are, how they are endangered, and how we can protect them. For about a year now I've been working on ecological surveys, trying to find out what birds nest where.
How did you end up participating in Cornelia’s artist in residence project?
Honestly, I just sent Cornelia an e-mail. I heard in an interview that she was looking for people who were interested in Environmental Protection, so I introduced myself. Then, to my great surprise, she invited me.
How did you like your time at Fraggina? Were you inspired there?
Of course I really enjoyed my time at Fraggina!!!! So far, I've gone three times at different times of the year, and I was surprised to see how different the landscape is every time. The property is so diverse and ecologically valuable, I'm never done discovering more things. Of course I also found the people very interesting every time! Before I never had much contact with creatives, and I think that this ‘art bubble’ has really enriched my life! I have learned so much and met such great people!
What did you take home with you?
I really noticed that I was missing creativity in my life, without even knowing it. It is inspiring to meet people who are so open minded! Also Cornelia makes you feel like anything is possible!
