Hagion Poems

Written by Nathan Southern

Preface

Hagion is a prose trilogy of novellas I am working on. Two of the three stories are done. Story two had some poetry therein. The first poem is spoken by Death, the second is in a book Death holds, and the last is a lay a young boy finds on a rock. That boy would become Death. I hope you enjoy.

Death’s Chant

Grinding, ground,
Grinding all away.
Bones of chained,
Bones of free,
Blood tastes sweet inside o’ me.

Death’s Book

Looking before
Never has one looking aft.
Be aware when he sneaks behind
With barb tipped of wire
Preparing the shaft.
A scout of one mission
Fell back to warn his general
Permission, sir, may I let him in?
Too late he was, not looking back.
Now burns his bones, like a worn out shack.
In memory of Private Elwin Lytton
Whom I shot and left smitten.

Rock Inscription

Across the border, across the lines
Where youth and joy thrive
Across the expanses, beyond the confines
Where love coaxs you to dive
Where she bids me, sit, and dine
Together we share and bask
In the Almighty Abstinence
Of soul free’d from the mask

It's funny you mention Uno cause my family were playing that the other day and I kept laying on the +2 and +4 Wildcards on my brother till he probably had 20 cards in his hand. You're welcome. I was going to do something more personal to poetry writers but this was all I could do in a pinch I'm afraid. Next one I'll dedicate to you to make up for it.

I'm a big fan of card games, crazy eights, Texas holdum, I've played pass the ace and hearts several times, I love uno but I'm not a big fan of the rules that some people play with, my family we've always played were you can stack +2's and then the next person has to pick as many as there is 2+ cards (if that makes sense) you can also stack the same numbers, like two 5's, even if there different colors as long as one of them is the same color as the stack or the stack is a five. I've played with people who didn't allow either, it was annoying... I just realized that I never said thank you for the present, so thank you.

Okay. I'll see about getting it published on here. Part one at least. Board games. We played Scrabble a few weeks back. Most of the time it's card games in my family tho. And I think you're quite the poet myself.

I would love to read them. My new year was pretty great, we played board games and stayed up late. lol, I'm a poet and I didn't know-it. Ya I'm doing ok.

Hi! Sorry I didn't see these till just now. Well, my New Year was really good. I'm writing up a storm, like the rest of us I suppose. The story these appear in is called Hagion. I can post it on here if you like. It's completely finished and so is the sequel, but the third one I haven't started yet. The poems come in the sequel. But let me know. I'd love to share it. And I hope you are doing well too!

I forgot to add a name on these when I posted them. Sry. Somehow it reverted to my dad's name.
