Books
Written by Pashynn F.
Good books are like portals into another world,
One where you can see the kingdom’s flags unfurled.
The real world grows dim,
As if a fog creeps in.
The book grows so real,
Hope and fear you feel.
And if an evil character lives to do evil another day,
You fear the harm on them he could lay.
Lives of many people seem to be a mystery,
Sometimes you, and others in that world, wonder about their history.
And even if you read the books ten times or more,
Good books can’t and never will be a bore.

We get dark at about 3:45 pm. Most of the time you don't get everything you want done in a day. But you have a lot of reading you can do!
Also the sun must set so early up there. Here it already sets at, one sec let me look,,, a quarter after 04:00 , and after twilight it’s dark by 05:00. How about for you?
Wow. That cold already! It's Dec 3rd 03:38 in the afternoon and it's only -3C here in central Alberta. Mind you it is really warm today, yesterday was more like -8C. But the coldest it's supposed to be in the next ten days is -11C. and the warmest is 4C. So ya, to me that's crazy cold. What's the average temp during the winter in Alaska? I think for here the coldest is between -20C & -30C , and we do get up to 0C every now and then. Ya. As for the book collection, that's awesome. I would love to do something like that, I just haven't got the room. Too many siblings, lol. I still collect as many as I can though.
It is currently -25° Celcius here in Alaska. Nose sort of stings and if you're outside too long your lips feel like they'll fall off. I've been working at my old book collection for years. If I get any money for working at a job it's going towards buying books.
Alaska, WOW. What’s that like? I personally hate the cold and I only live in Alberta Canada. lol I totally agree Calvin and Hobbes is way better. And old books are awesome, I’m collecting older books. I have read Anne Franks diary, it’s an amazing book.
Never heard of this series. That's good, I think, that you could get your brother out of reading Big Nate for awhile. Calvin and Hobbes is always better than Big Nate anyway. I've never seen the I Canada series here where I live in Alaska. Although, I usually don't read new books. It has to be at least fifty years old before I touch it. I'm about to start on a long read of what you'd call "classics". I'll keep an eye out though. Oh, and speaking of diaries have you ever read Anne Frank's diary? Love that book.
The Dear Canada book series is really more aimed towards girls. There’s a boy series, it has half the number of books, but it’s called I Am Canada. I’ve read them too. {shrug} I mean, why not, they’re good books. I introduced my little brother to them too, kept him out of Big Nate for a bit, lol.
Anyhow, you would probably like them, if you haven’t already read them.
No I haven't, but I've heard of them. I actually heard of them through another book, a Dear Canada called, one moment, Turned Away: The World War II Diary of Devorah Bernstein by Carol Matas Really good, I've read almost all of that series and I own a lot of them.
Yeah it is. I don't know all the details but I think Tom and Huck end up meeting him. I know this is a rather odd question, but have you ever read Agatha Christie? I just finished Murder in Mesopotamia with Hercule Poirot. I'd definitely recommend it.
No I haven’t. It’s a Mark Twain?
Haven't read Connecticut Yankee yet, but I did read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, which I really loved. I think I'm looking forward to reading the Mysterious Stranger. Have you heard of that one?
My favourite book by Mark Twain is, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. I love that one. It’s hilarious and crazy.
No actually I haven’t heard of that site. I’ll look it up though. As for Samuel Clemens, lol, what can I say I’m a book nerd.
Samuel Clemens! I don't think I've ever heard anyone catch his real name before. Huck Finn is my favorite book of his, so far that I've read. I need to put up the next part of Followers on here. I do post stuff on a site called Critique Circle. Have you ever heard of it?
lol I think your list is longer actually. I also love Charles Dickens, Mark Twain {Samuel Clemens} and Shakespeare. And some books I didn’t think of at the time that I also love are, The Hunger Games series and The Divergent series. I love those ones too.
My favorites list is probably as large as yours. I love anything C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. I have read Lord of the Rings and Hobbit, but not Silmarillion yet. I like Madeleine L'Engle and her Time Quintet books. Little Prince. Beatrix Potter. Winnie-the-Pooh. Where the Wild Things Are. Oh, and the Gruffalo. I love the Inkheart series and Secret Zoo by Bryan Chick. Wind in the Willows. Anything Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, Poe, Mark Twain, or Victor Hugo. Ray Bradbury to, I love his work. All the fairy tales and myths. John Bunyan. The Bible and a bit of the Buddha's sayings. And that's a small list.
Ummm, I have read a lot of great books, but. My all-time favorite is The Lord Of The Rings series (books & movies), which, fun fact, is not a trilogy, it is actually composed of six books, which are usually printed in group of three books. I also love the Inkheart series, Reckless series, I'm a fan of Gordan Korman's books, ummm, when I was a bit younger my favorites were Narnia and Robin Hood, there's a lot of books I like lol. I don't like the Harry Potter series, no character development. Mostly fantasy I guess, some historical fiction, a large mix. What are your favorite books?
Love this poem. I, for one, 100% agree with what you are saying here. Books are indeed our keys to other worlds. You had me imaging Narnia when I read this. What are some of your favorite books, Pashynn?
