The Forest Garden

One of the main projects at Mulinaccio is the edible forest garden, or 'Wandelwald' as the gardeners call them who planned it. The German company baumrausch from Bremen is specialized in permaculture and Cornelia asked them to create a garden at the heart of Mulinaccio that shows what a beautiful space can grow when we collaborate with nature.

The 'Wandelwald' is not an ordinary forest, but an edible landscape consisting of more than 100 trees and 400 shrubs. Mulberries, quinces, sweet chestnuts, and 70 other fruit and nut trees grow together with fruit shrubs, herbs, vegetables, and wildflowers. Forest gardens are sustainable and balanced ecosystems that mimic natural woodland environments.

The baumrausch team added a pond that is already bursting with life and winding paths to explore. A cleverly designed water system threads its way through and helps to guide rain to the right places in the forest garden.

At the center of the Wandelwald there will be a cabin containing books about nature and a chair to sit down in and read.
